What you already proved working from home

If you have closed books from home, you have already done the hardest part of remote accounting: keeping deadlines with no one at the next desk. A remote US client relies on exactly that.

Working from home, you did
For a US client it is
Logging in to the office system and closing the month from home
Cloud bookkeeping in QuickBooks or Xero, from your own desk
Asking for bills and approvals over email and calls
Written requests to a US owner in another time zone
Reconciling accounts with no one checking over your shoulder
The monthly reconciliation a remote client relies on
Sharing reports as files instead of printouts
Month-end reports sent to the owner and their CPA
Planning your own hours to meet a deadline
Client work planned in blocks you set

The remote habits are already yours. The US software, the route and the clients are what the three evenings add.

3 reasons work for a direct US client is remote by design

  1. The client is in another country.A US business that works with you directly from India has no office for you to go back to. The arrangement is remote from the first day.
  2. The books already live online.QuickBooks Online and Xero run in a web browser. The owner can invite a bookkeeper or accountant into the same file, from wherever they are.
  3. The US day starts in your evening. When a US owner begins the working day, it is evening or later in India. Calls and replies can happen at home, not in a slot squeezed around a commute.

One month on a US client's books, from home, step by step

An example client: a small US interior design studio with two designers, a part-time office manager and invoices raised project by project. Everything below happens at your own table.

  1. Log in to the client's fileOpen the studio's Xero file from your own laptop. Nothing is installed at an office and nothing needs to be carried home.
  2. Sort the monthPut each bank and card transaction in its place: materials, contractors, software, rent, with each project's costs kept apart.
  3. Raise and track invoicesSend the month's project invoices and list the earlier ones still unpaid, for the office manager to follow up.
  4. ReconcileTie the bank and card accounts to their statements, and write down any difference you could not clear.
  5. Record contractor paymentsLog each payment to outside contractors carefully. A US business reports contractor payments above a set amount on Form 1099-NEC, due early the following year.
  6. Send the month in writingEmail the profit and loss, the balance sheet and your open questions. Sent during your day, it is waiting when the owner starts theirs.

The 4 things a work-from-home accountant adds for US work

  1. Cloud softwareQuickBooks and Xero, where the file sits online instead of on an office server. The second evening covers both.
  2. US words for familiar entriesPayables, receivables, 1099 contractors, sales tax: labels for work you already know, and the words a US client will use with you.
  3. A routeUS bookkeeping needs no licence and is the place to start. The Enrolled Agent licence adds US tax work later. The first evening compares the two.
  4. A remote-ready profileA profile that shows you work well on your own: closes met, reconciliations kept, reports sent on time. The third evening covers how Indian accountants win this work.

Where remote US accounting work is found

The short version, free, before you register. The third evening takes each source apart.

  1. Remote bookkeeping roles open worldwideSome remote job boards list bookkeeping roles open to candidates anywhere in the world. Read each listing for where the employer is based and where it hires.
  2. Freelance platformsUpwork is a freelance marketplace where clients post jobs and hire for them online. Filter for monthly bookkeeping that repeats, rather than one-off clean-ups.
  3. A plain statement on LinkedInWrite that you have closed books from home and name the software. That is what a US owner hiring remotely needs to see.
  4. Monthly work that buildsOne client closed well every month is steady work from home, and the second client can come through the first one's word.

What this work is worth in the US

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median wage for bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks in the US at $24.36 an hour, or $50,670 a year, in May 2025. That is what US employers pay US staff for this work. It is not what you will earn: pay for work done from India depends on the employer or client, the role and your experience.

You are in the right room if

Straight answers

Is it really free?

Yes. All three live evenings are free. No card and no fee at any point.

Is US accounting work really done from home?

For a direct US client, yes. The client is in the US and you are in India, so there is no office to attend. Roles with outsourcing firms in India may be office-based, so check each one.

What do I need at home to do it?

A reliable laptop and a steady internet connection. QuickBooks Online and Xero run in a browser, so there is nothing heavy to install.

Do I need a CA, CPA or US degree?

No. US bookkeeping is not a licensed job, and the IRS sets no degree requirement for the Enrolled Agent licence.

Can I start while I still go to the office?

Yes, once you have checked your employment terms on outside work. Client work can be planned in blocks, and the US day reaches into your evening.

What if I miss an evening?

Sessions are live only, with no recordings, because the questions are answered in the room. You keep the notes and templates, and the WhatsApp group helps you catch up.

Do you place me in a job?

No. Firms and clients make their own hiring decisions. What you get is the route, the skills map and the plan that puts your profile in front of US clients.

Books you closed from home are the proof a US client looks for.

Three live evenings, 10 to 12 October, free. Join from home, and leave with the software, the route and where remote US work is found.
